THE VELVET UNDERGROUND EXPERIENCE
A NEW YORK EXHIBITION

Revisit New York City in the early 1960’s to explore how this iconic American rock band influenced modern music, fashion, art, and popular culture in frontman Lou Reed’s native city.

From their go-to Lower East Side hangouts to Andy Warhol’s Silver Factory, explore the band’s favorite NYC haunts through Matali Crasset’s original scenography.

PEEL SLOWLY AND SEE!

The Velvet Underground Experience will contain six films, 350+ photos, 1,000+ objects, and a VR greenhouse featuring projections that recreate the atmosphere of the banana album artwork produced by Andy Warhol.

For three months, culture enthusiasts can participate in a series of unique and extraordinary experiences including concerts, special events, lectures, pop-up installations, fashion collaborations, art exhibitions, screenings, performances, and masterclasses.

Original Movies

The multimedia experience will contain six films produced exclusively for the exhibition by Edward English, Alexander Keewatin Dewdney, Gerard Malanga, Marie Menken, Barbara Rubin, Andy Warhol, and Danny Williams.

Portraits

Portraits of the band members—Lou Reed, John Cale, Sterling Morrison, Maureen Tucker, Nico—will be featured alongside those of fellow ’60s New York icons like Candy Darling, Allen Ginsberg, Piero Heliczer, Edie Sedgwick, Andy Warhol, Danny Williams, and more!
